Grey Camo was my first painting ever. Despite it being my first experience of acrylic paint I wanted to create something that was still contemporary, interesting and attractive. What started as a simple idea actually turned out to be quite complicated and time consuming. It was also a great learning experience and introduction into composition, colour mixing and becoming familiar with acrylic properties and drying time.
The complication in the composition came from wanting to be visually consistent and not letting two of the same colours border or touch each other. The painting also required multiple layers of paint as my inexperience led to me thinning out the paint more than necessary. I still apply multiple layers of paint in my recent works but they are thicker and are used to create depth and effects rather than just produce a thick layer of the same colour.
I'll always look back on this painting with great fondness as it was my first and launched my pursuit of an art career. It also brings me great pleasure to know that it is appreciated and now has a place in someone else's life.
